Residents accuse boarder immigration officers of harassment and soliciting bribes
the Kamwezi boarder immigration officers of harassment and soliciting
bribes from them before they cross the boarder to Rwanda.
The residents raised the complaints yesterday while meeting the East
African Community Committee at Kamwezi boarder immigration offices in
Kamwezi Sub County, Rukiga district.
The residents who include Labson Tumwesigye, Ambrose Twiine and James
Tumuheki among others claim that whenever they want to cross the
boarder going to Rwanda, they are harassed, beaten and their national
identity cards confiscated and are forced by the officers to pay between 10,000 to 20,000 shillings before they are given back to them.

Meanwhile, the Rukiga district Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi who hosted the delegation asked officials from the immigration office to always use other means of disciplining the residents who are found crossing the boarder without documents than beating and
However, Ntungamo Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Gerald Karuhanga who chaired the meeting asked residents to identify those who
beat, harass and ask for bribes so that they are arrested and charged
the accusations against his officers but promised to investigate.
