Relegated Wigan start to clear the decks of their FA Cup heroes
Franco Di Santo is one of five Wigan players to not have their contracts renewed
FA Cup winners Wigan have started to clear the decks after being relegated from the Premier League by parting company with eight players.
Midfielder Paul Scharner has returned to Hamburg after his loan spell with the Latics while Joel Robles is back with Atletico Madrid and Angelo Henriquez has returned to Manchester United.
Five out-of-contract players are also no longer at the DW Stadium after it was decided not to offer them new deals.
Franco Di Santo, Antolin Alcaraz, Maynor Figueroa, Ronnie Stam and Albert Crusat are looking for new clubs while James McCarthy and Callum McManaman may leave at some stage before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
Two of Wigan’s better players, they have already been linked with big money moves to Liverpool and Aston Villa respectively.
The biggest departure of the lot, however, could be manager Roberto Martinez as he has been linked with the vacancies at Everton and Stoke City.
