Reinstated Masaka Town Clerk Continues Pursing Court Case
The recently re-instated Masaka town clerk has refuse to withdraw a case he filled against the municipality.
Edward Ggwavu Kiwanuka was reinstated after he challenging his dismissal from office in court.
Trouble between Ggwavu and Masaka municipality started after he was interdicted by the district service commission for allegedly remitting shillings 200 million to Uganda Revenue Authority-URA as Pay As you Earn-PAYE Tax without negotiation.
Ggwavu was also accused of renewing the contract of UTODA PUT Safe to manage revenue collection in disregard to the laid down procedure.
he explains that despite the fact that he has assumed office, he doesn’t feel secure because the municipality has only paid him 50 of the 350 million shillings he is meant to get.
He says that he will only withdraw the case after the municipality has cleared his compensation.
Ggwavu prays that court grants him permission to attach and sell the council property.
However the current Masaka Town Clerk Johnson Baryantuma, says the fact that they have paid Ggwavu at least 50 million shillings and reinstated him shows that, they are ready to clear his money.
Godfrey Kayemba, the Mayor Masaka municipality is disappointed that Kiwanuka has not withdrawn the case against the Municipality.
He has pleaded with Ggwavu to withdraw the case saying he is likely to get permission to auction council assets.
