Falcao to join AS Monaco for €60m.
Radamel Falcao is to have a medical at AS Monaco before securing a move to the Ligue 1 club for 60 million euros (£51,295,000),according to Sky Sports.
The 27-year-old Colombian has been linked to a host of clubs including Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City, but it seems Monaco have raced ahead of the competition to secure the signing of the prolific Atletico Madrid frontman.
The French side, recently promoted from France’s second tier, have received huge investment from their mega-rich Russian billionaire owner – Dmitry Rybolovlev – in an attempt to make the club a powerhouse within France and Europe once again.
The Ligue 2 champions have been in the market for several top stars and are looking to use their new-found wealth to attract the best talents from across the globe. Furthermore, the possibility of living in the French Riviera, with its glamorous lifestyle, would be difficult for anybody to turn down.
Falcao made 90 appearances for Atletico Madrid – scoring 70 goals – since his arrival from Porto where he enjoyed a similarly successful spell, making 87 appearances and scoring 72 goals. Prior to this, he managed 45 goals in 105 appearances for River Plate. As a Colombian international, he has appeared 43 times with 16 goals to his name.
Monaco assistant coach Jean Petit is reported to have told Radio RCN on Friday: “Yes, we are expecting Falcao and four or five other players of his quality.
“We have spoken and we continue to speak with Falcao and his representatives, negotiations are ongoing. We hope to seal a deal as soon as possible.
“Monaco need a player like Falcao because he can help us a lot and because he can attract other top players, and that’s the best way of confirming out project is big and interesting.
“Signing Falcao is a big coup on sporting and media levels for French football.”
