Proposed Patriotism bill arouses mixed reactions amongst Ugandans
The Minister for Presidency, Frank Tumwebaze’s proposal to present a bill before Parliament which is aimed at forcing everybody to show love for the country has brought mixed reactions amongst different people. A cross section of nationals argue that the bill is not timely and not brought in good faith since it’s mandatory for everyone to love Uganda.
They also say that crimes like corruption, income inequalities and unemployment, among other evils should be addressed before introducing this law because “the law is not that vital compared to the already existing evils in the country.
Bugweri MP, Abdu Katuntu says promoting patriotism by law is mechanical and unattainable since patriotism is not enforced, but rather inculcated into the population.
