Poverty Levels Among Ugandans Increased By Over 7%
Poverty levels among Ugandans have increased by over 7%.This according to the 2016/2017 The Uganda National House Hold Survey conducted by Uganda National Bureau of Standards [UBOS].
It indicates that currently, over 10 million Ugandans are very poor compared to 2012/2013 when the number stood at 6.7 million.Director Social Economic Survey Uganda National, Muwonge James attributes this increase to factors including drought , sharp increase in commodity prices, crop diseases and floods among others.
He adds that poverty is more pronounced in Karamonja, Busoga and Bukedi Regions.
He said this at Statistics House in Kampala during the launch of the Uganda National House Hold Survey 2016 /17.State minister for Finance in charge of planning David Bahati says to address this, government is working towards creating a productive mindset amongst the populace.
