Polythene Bags Industries Closed Over Poor Working Conditions
Mukono district officials have closed two polythene bag industries due to poor working environment after finding some of the workers with rotten legs and fingers due to effects chemicals and dirty water.
The two industries that have been closed include Lida and EON packaging industries manufacturing polythene bags found at Mbalala village in Nama sub county Mukono district.
Their closure has followed after labor officers found their workers with no protective gears leaving the workers exposed to toxic smoke which comes out of the machines.
According to some of the workers says that their fingers and toes have rotten due to dirty water and chemicals that they are exposed to on daily basis after their employers refused to give them protective gears.
This forced the district labor officer Henry Sabaganzi to close down the industry until the top management of the industry provides protective gears to its employees and improving the hygiene in the area.
However efforts to get a comment from the owner of the closed industries were fruitless after he refused to comment anything.
