Petition to Block Bugiri Elections Thrown Out
Jinja High Court Deputy Registrar, Jersey Byaruhanga has dismissed with costs an application seeking to stop the nomination of candidates for the Bugiri Division Chairpersons, Mayoral and Municipality MP race.
On June 1, 2018, Saul Baliraine, the Bugiri town council Chairperson petitioned Jinja High court together with 14 councilors to stop the nominations, saying there was no need to conduct polls since they were validly elected.
They argued that conducting fresh polls will dispose them of their offices before they complete their five year term.
Bugiri town council was elevated to a municipality, which saw the creation of divisions and necessitated the election of new leaders.
