Parliamentary Committee on Infrastructure Chairperson Faces Censure over Incompetence
A section of legislators sitting on the Parliamentary Committee on Infrastructure have commenced a move to impeach the committee Chairperson and Luweero Woman MP, Lillian Nakate accusing her of incompetence to run committee work.
This follows recommendations by some of the members of entire house that they made during the debate on the committee report on the operations of SGS on the compulsory inspection of vehicles.
The members sighted that the content of the report didn’t reflect the decision of committee members’ majority of whom had signed on the minority report hence accusing Nakate of conniving with SGS to enhance their operations.
In her report, Nakate recommended that SGS operations be suspended for a period not less than three months as well as renegotiating the contract for less charges inspection; this appeared contrary to the decision by the majority of the members who recommended for the termination of the contract.
Bunyole west mp James Waluswaka noted that as members of the committee, they cant allow to be chaired by a person who doesn’t respect the will of the lay man.
He adds that though a formal decision to have her suspended has not been taken yet, they have told her to stay a side for some time they put their committee to order.
Currently the committee Vice Chairperson, George Wilson Kumaama Nsamba is presiding over the committee meetings.
