Parliament urged to support constituents hit by disasters
President Yoweri Museveni has directed parliament to encourage their constituents to make contributions in assisting neighboring areas that have been hit by disasters.
The communication was made before Parliament by government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa while responding to a matter of national importance raised by Igara County East MP Rafael Magyezi complaining about the food scarcity in the area.
Magyezi says Igara constituency in Bushenyi district has been invaded by strange insects which are eating crops resulting to food scarcity in the area.
He says due to this and the long dry spell, people in the area are at the risk of starvation and want government intervention for food relief and pesticides to deal with the insects. He says the most affected areas are Kyangunga, Mitooma, kakanzu and Ruhumura sub counties.
