Parliament Passes 1.3 billion Nodding Disease Cash
Parliament has passed a supplementary budget of 1.3 billion shillings to deal with the problem of nodding syndrome in northern Uganda.
The supplementary budget was tabled by the minister of state for planning David Bahati who said that the supplementary budget was to benefit the local governments of Kitgum Pader Lamwo, Amuru, Omoro,Gulu Lira, Oyam,Gulu referral hospital ministry of health and ministry of gender.
This was however opposed by the mps who noted that there was no need to allocate 199m to ministry of gender,80million for allowances, workshops and training and said all the name should be allocated to the affected districts to deal with the syndrome.
The minister of health Ruth Aceng asked them to re-allocate the money for ministry of gender but leave the one for Gulu referral hospital as this was to train doctors and give them more skills to deal with the disease which the mps acknowledged and later passed the budget .
