Parliament to Investigate Sexual Abuse In Schools
Parliament has set up a select committee to investigate allegations of sexual violence in institutions of learning in Uganda.
The motion to inquire into allegations of sexual violence in institutions of learning was tabled by youth female mp Ana Adeke and seconded by the Hon. Okello Anthony of Kioga and Veronica Eragu from Kaberamaido district .
Ana Adeke says that even though government developed the National Strategic Plan on Violence Against Children in Schools for 2015-2020 says that 18% of children still receive marriage proposals while 25% are touched in a sexual manner which she says needs to be stopped to ensure children study in conducive environment.
This was supported by the mps after the minister of state for primary education Rose Mary Seninde had asked for the matter to be handled by the commitee set up by the ministry of education.
The kasilo county mp Elijah Okupa noted that a select committee will be better suited which was supported by parliament.
