Parliament director gets 10-year jail sentence
The former director of the Parliamentary budget office, Samuel Wanyaka, has been sentenced to 10 years- imprisonment for stealing sh822m from the government.
The Anti-Corruption Court presided over by Justice Paul Kahaibale Mugamba last week convicted Wanyaka of three counts of embezzlement, abuse of office and false accounting by a public servant.
The court handed Wanyaka 10 years for embezzlement, 5 years for abuse of office and 2 years for false accounting. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning the convict will serve 10 years in jail.
The judge also ordered Wanyaka to refund sh822m to government and disqualified him from holding a public office for the next ten years.
