Parliament asks minister for information to clarify on ban of scratch cards
Parliament has directed the Minister for Information, Communication & ICT Frank Tumwebaze to explain the directive of Uganda communications commission to ban the sale of scratch cards.
At the beginning of this month, Uganda communications commission released a memo informing the public that starting next month; telecom companies will no longer be allowed to sell scratch cards and instead advised Ugandans to use mobile money to buy airtime.
The Busiki county MP from Namutumba district Paul AKamba today informed parliament that the ban of scratch cards has made people in rural areas find it difficult to communicate to their leaders and relatives saying that the available options of mobile money and easy load are not accessible to them.
This prompted the Speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga to direct minister Tumwebaze to explain this ban next week Tuesday.
