Oyam: Former Kamdini LC 3 Chairman Committed to High Court For Defilement
The Lira Chief Magistrate’s court has committed Tom Arac, the former Kamdini LC 3 chairperson in Oyam District to high court for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15- year old Primary six pupil. Arac appeared before the Lira Chief Magistrate, Alex Karocho Masabe on Friday.
Court heard that on the night of July 6, 2017, Arac, 46 years old entered the hut where his 15-year-old victim, a primary six pupil of Atapara Primary School was sleeping and defiled her.
The girl reportedly raised an alarm forcing Arac to flee leaving behind his trousers, shoes, mobile phone, shirt and some documents including his national identity card. It was through these exhibits that police tracked down the suspect leading to his arrest from his home the next day.
Medical examinations conducted on the minor show at Anyeke Health Centre IV in Oyam shows that she is three months pregnant. It was upon this background that Masabe committed Arac to high court, saying his court lacks jurisdiction to handle his case.
Masabe sent Arac on remand at Lira Central Government Prison to wait for the high court sitting. Joseph Olet Magezi, the clan head of Ochola, says Arac has been defiling the victim for the past 3-years.
He wants court to give Arac a maximum sentence so as to serve as a deterrent to people who thinks like him. Arac is not new to controversies as he has been in and out of police for various offenses including theft and defilement.
