Otunnu to face trial for defaming President Museveni
Buganda Road Court Magistrate, Simon Kintu Zirintusa, has pushed to May 2, the hearing of the case in which the UPC president Dr. Olara Otunnu, is accused of defaming President Yoweri Museveni. The matter was adjourned on Tuesday citing the absence of the Chief Magistrate, Araali Muhiirwa, who is in charge of Otunnu’s case.
Prosecution alleges that Otunnu on January 16, 2013 while at UPC headquarters at Uganda House, with an intent of defaming president Museveni, questioned the deaths of what he called “Museveni’s allies since the Front for National Salvation’s (FRONASA) struggles to date calling for an investigation into the matter”.
It is alleged that in his speech, Otunnu claimed that the NRM government is tainted with the blood of his former FRONASA comrades Andrew Lutakome, Francis Ayume, the former Speaker of parliament, Noble Mayombo, the former Permanent secretary ministry of Defence and, Cerinah Nebanda, the former Butaleja district MP.
