Ntungamo Schools lock in students for failure to pay school fees
Following a directive by the ministry of Education and sports to schools not to send away students for school fees, school heads in Ntungamo district have now gazetted rooms at schools where they keep students who have not complied with fees payment, as others attend classes.
This was revealed during a general meeting between district leaders and parents of Kajara county in Ntungamo district. One of the school heads who attended the meeting said they reached this conclusion following the RDC’s and other district leaders’ renewed warning to school authorities over sending children for fees, yet the parents had failed to pay school fees.
At the same meeting, Ntungamo district deputy RDC, John Betungura noted that the act violates the child’s right to education and pledged more investigation into the matter.
