New report puts Uganda among the most corrupt countries
Transparency international Uganda,(TIU) an anti-graft NGO has released the corruption perception index for the 2018 putting Uganda at 149th position out of the 180 countries that where surveyed worldwide.
Uganda has moved only two positions forward moving from 151st position in 2017 but the score at 26% score has remained constant. In East Africa Rwanda has emerged the best in fighting corruption with 56% and in 48 position globally.
This is followed by Tanzania with 36% in 99th position, Kenya comes in the third position with 27% in 144th position , Uganda in the fourth position 26% in 149th position whereas Burundi scored 17% coming in the 170th position, while Seychelles emerged the best in Africa and Denmark the best globally.
Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of Transparency International Uganda, John Mary Odoi notes that despite the existing laws and institutions put in place to fight corruption, these are not given independence to do their required obligations
