New Mbarara DPC warns police against working with crime preventers
The new Mbarara District police commander, superintendent of police Gad Murungi, has warned police officers against dealing with crime preventers.
Speaking to Crooze FM yesterday at Mbarara central police station, Murungi said crime preventers are no longer working with police but are attached to the UPDF reserve force.
Recently police received official communication from the director of operations emphasizing that crime preventers are not supposed to work with police and police is not supposed to arm them or give them uniform.
Murungi, however, noted that the crime preventers can still approach the police and give information or intelligence about any unlawful activity or crime taking place in communities.
