Museveni Pens Easter Message to Ugandans, Assures on Security
AS Ugandans join the rest of the world to celebrate Easter festival, President Museveni has urged Ugandans to celebrate responsibly and be mindful of their health. In a facebook post, the president said:
‘Happy Easter holidays to all Ugandans, I urge you to celebrate responsibly, Be mindful of your health and security’.
The president also promises that the security agencies are on ground to ensure there are no incidences of criminality during this season.
‘All responsible government agencies are on high alert to ensure there are no incidents during this festive season’, the president said.
This comes at a time of increased criminality especially the kidnap of women, with the most recent being that of Susan Magara.
The body of Suzan Magara, a 28-year-old cashier who went missing on February 7 was discovered on February 27, this g dumped in Kigo off the Entebbe expressway.
There have been related pockets of criminality across the country with the most prominent being the machete wielding men in the greater Masaka region.
In Mbaarra, police recently gunned down a deserted UPDF officer, identified as Guma, who had been terorizing the community especially areas of Kakoba, Kiyanja and Katete.
In an operation which started last weekend, Police recovered another AK 47 riffle suspected to have been used to terrorize people in Mbarara and surrounding areas.
Jaffar Magyezi, the District Police Commander(DPC) Mbarara said the gun was recovered during an operation led by the flying squad unit on armed robbers in the districts of Mbarara, Sheema and Mitooma.
Magyezi also as a way of preventing crime in this festive season directived all LCI Chairpersons to register to register all video halls, betting places and bars in their areas as a way of curbing crime during this Easter season.
Magyezi said during festival period, most bar and video halls operate trans-night, a habit he said criminals take advantage of to steal people’s property.
Magyezi wants local council chairpersons to register bars and video halls that will be working during Easter festival season and provide them security to avert criminals in their communities.
He noted that those who will be found operating past midnight and are not secured will be closed.
