Mps Want Nalufenya ‘Torture Officers’ Apprehended
Buyaga west Mp Barbas Tinkasire notes with displeasure the IGP’s move to close the Nalufenya detention center leaving the perpetrators of torture not prosecuted.
Over the weekend, it came in the know that the IGP Okoth Ochola has implemented his promise of closing the police detention center at Nalufenya and should now revert to only doing police station services.
The facility was used by special operations unit officers to interrogate and detain violent and high profile criminals though there have been allegations of torture at the facility.
The outspoken legislator Tinkasimire says torturing suspects is an offence in the country hence the need for the police officers who were engaged in the act should be brought to book.
Commenting about the same issue, the Kasanda North Mp Patrick Nsamba notes that the IGP should not stop at dealing with closing a mere facility but rather fight the practice of torturing suspects by police officers.
He says there a number of measures that can be taken to interrogate suspects than torturing them
