MPs Threaten to Block Office of Prime Minister’s Budget for 2013/14 FY
Members of the budget committee of parliament have threatened to block the 2013/2014 budget for the office of the prime minister due to failure by government to prosecute the permanent secretary Pius Bigirimana.
The members told the minister of state for finance in charge of general duties, Fred Omach that parliament made recommendations including prosecuting the permanent secretary but what they are seeing now is giving him more responsibilities.
They say that Bigirimana’s stay in office will compromise the whole issue and leave government without benefiting from the ongoing investigations and persecution of suspects.
The chairperson of the committee Tim Lwanga said that if government was to show its commitment to have the money that was stolen recovered and culprits punished it should have begun with the permanent secretary who was the overall supervisor.
Money worth 5obshs was misappropriated in the office of the prime minister and which forced donors to withdraw their support.
