Ministry of works and transport introduces a non motorized transport policy
The ministry of works and transport has introduced a non motorized transport policy, aimed at creating space for pedestrians and bicycle riders.
Alex Bwangamoi Okello, the permanent secretary in the ministry of works and transport notes that, this policy is an important part of the long term transport vision, for promoting walking and cycling in Uganda.
According to Bwangamoi, this policy was approved by the cabinet in 2012, but it has not yet been implemented.
He revealed this, during South Western region stakeholders’ meeting held at Kosiya hotel in Mbarara town, aimed at equipping district leaders on how this policy will be working.
Speaking as the guest of honor, the deputy RDC Mbarara district, Emmy Katera noted that, this policy has been long overdue, as it will ease transport and traffic flow.
