Ministry of Education and sports to review the maths curriculum.
Academic Mathematicians want the ministry of Education and sports to review the maths curriculum and take account of concerns raised by several stakeholders on its continued poor performance in national exams.
Speaking during The Run for Maths, a charity run to Mark World Maths Day at Makerere University, the head of the Mathematics Department at Makerere University, Dr. David Ssevviiri says despite government’s heavy investment in the teaching of science and mathematics, students continue to fail the subject at different levels.
He says there is need to change the approach to improve the performance and attract more students to the subject.
For her part, Dr. Nalule Rebecca Muhumuza from the Uganda women Mathematicians and a lecturer of Mathematics at Busitema University explains that they use the annual day to reflect on what is needed to ensure that young girls change their bad attitude towards maths as a subject.
