MBARARA: UPDF Soldier Sentenced to 7 years in Jaill Over Man slaughter
The 2nd Division Court-martial sitting in Makenke in Mbarara yesterday presided over by Col. Geoffrey Mujuni Rwamunyonyore, sentenced a 42 year old UPDF officer to 7 years in prison over manslaughter.
The court which heard that on 28th November 2017 while at Kidedeya range ground, Sgt. Abubakari with a PK submachine gun shot and caused death of Private Nelson Kiiza whom they were together at the shooting range ground.
While reading the judgment, Col. Mujuni said Sgt. Abubakari was convicted on his own plea of guilt.
He said court considered the prayers of both prosecution and the defense counsels thus coming up with a seven year jail term which the convict can appeal in a higher court within 14 days.
Meanwhile, the public relations officer Makenke 2nd Division Army barracks, Lt. Geoffrey Sande told journalists that the judgment showed there is no one above the law and that it serves as an example to the other would be offenders.
