Mbarara Municipality teachers vow not to resume work until they are paid
At least 13 primary schools in Mbarara municipality have partially closed as over 1,500 teachers under their umbrella body Uganda National Teachers’ Union –UNATU continue with their sit down strike over delayed pay. The strike was announced on Tuesday this week. Some of the schools that have been affected by industrial action include; Kakoba Muslim and Madrasat Hamza primary schools in Kakoba division Kyamugorani P/s, in Kakiika division, Pentecostal and Nkokojeru Primary Schools in Kamukuzi division.
When our reporter visited Kakoba Muslim primary school,only three teachers who hold administrative positions had turned up for work leaving pupils stranded.
Semanda Mansul Abed ,the head teacher at Kakoba Muslim primary school said the decision by the teachers was long overdue.
South western Uganda UNATU coordinator, David Muhanguzi explained that the strike will go on until their grievances are addressed.
