Masaka waste management plant fails to get approval from Environment Authority
- Masaka municipality has failed to secure approval from the National Environment Management Authority to establish the much needed garbage recycling plant. In 2012, Masaka municipality bought 10 acres of land in Bulando village in Buwunga Sub County at 120 million Shillings to set up a recycling plant to address poor waste management.
- However, NEMA stopped the municipality from utilizing the land pending environment impact assessment exercise. Five years later, NEMA hasn’t approved the environmental Impact assessment report, which has stalled the project.Godfrey Kayemba, the Mayor Masaka Municipality, says the delayed approval from NEMA has frustrated their garbage collection efforts.
