Marcos Rojo to be fined two weeks’ wages after failing to join up with the Manchester United squad on their pre-season tour of North America.
The defender was due to link up with his team-mates in the United States on Saturday night but was not allowed to board the flight because of passport issues.
Manager Louis Van Gaal was far from happy when the Argentina international missed his scheduled flight to San Jose on Friday after not getting his passport renewed and despite having an extended break following the Copa America.
The Argentine was not helped by the fact Angel di Maria also failed to make his scheduled flight to join the team as he closes in on a £46.5million move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Rojo is now set to be £400,000 out of pocket for his error, which left Van Gaal fuming as the club continue their preparations for start of the Premier League season on August 8.
After Manchester United’s 3-1 win against Real Madrid on Saturday the Dutch manager revealed the Argentine pair had not arrived as planned.
Van Gaal had insisted that Di Maria would join up with the United squad but the former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss has already told his players that he will be joining the French champions.
Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United remain in negotiations over the transfer of Angel di Maria.
Nasser Al Khelaifi, the PSG owner, and sports director Olivier Letang are understood to be in London for discussions over the fee and its structure of payment with United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
The clubs are inching towards agreement on a fee while PSG are around two million euros short on di Maria’s annual salary request.
