Manchester United misfit Rafael is closing in on a move to Ligue 1 side Lyon.
The French club’s president Jean-Michel Aulas took to Twitter on Monday to confirm the ‘cheerful Brazilian’ defender had arrived at the club for talks.
United want £7million for the former Fluminense player but reports in France suggest Lyon are hoping to get the 25-year-old for as little as £2.5m.
Rafael has made more than 100 appearances for United but struggled to hold down a regular place under Louis van Gaal last season and was left out of the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
And it seems the arrival of Matteo Darmian from Torino earlier this summer has paved the way for Rafael’s departure.
Rafael has just 12 months remaining on his contract and was linked with a move to Benfica and Roma earlier this summer.
However, Lyon are now in pole position for the defender who looks set to join fellow Manchester United misfit Angel di Maria in moving to France.
