Manchester United could snap up Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara for £15m
FC Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara, goes for the ball during their Spanish League soccer match against Athletic Bilbao, at San Mames stadium in Bilbao, northern Spain, Saturday, April 27, 2013.
Speculation Thiago Alcantara could be on his way to Manchester United continues to hot up despite the player’s attempt to cool talk of a summer switch.
Fuel has been added to the fire with reports the Barcelona midfielder could be snapped up for as little as £15million after the buy-out clause in his Nou Camp contract was reduced from a whopping £77m after he struggled for game-time.
Spain international Thiago insists her does not want to think about his future until after the European Under-21 Championship in Isreal but is widely expected to leave for pastures new during the close season. Especially as Barca shirts are already being sold bearing new signing Neymar’s name on the No.11 shirt which has been Thiago’s.
He could become one of David Moyes’ first big signings at Old Trafford, while United keeper David De Gea is reportedly keen to have his countryman on board.
But Thiago, looking to play down the United link, insisted: ‘As I live my life, I am very happy. I really enjoy being at Barcelona because my experiences have been very good.
‘My future? We’ll see how things are after the European Championships.
‘David De Gea wants me at United? Each player wants what is best for their team. Like I say that hopefully he will come to Barca, he says the same about me.
‘I think it is not something to take too seriously.
‘De Gea in for Valdes then? As I have said, you never want a player of [Monaco-bound Victor] Valdes’ stature to leave, he is the best goalkeeper in the history of Barcelona, he has given us so many titles here that it is well worth him staying, but it is his desire and it must be respected.’
