Man Arrested over Fake HIV/AIDS Treatment
Police in Masaka have arrested a man who set up a fake HIV treatment center and has been conning victims millions of shillings for treatment.
Emmanuel Ssebunya, a resident of Gayaza village in Masaka district was arrested after a tipoff by residents who became suspicious of the herbs he has been administering to HIV patients and his mode of treatment.
Ssebunya has reportedly been giving his victims some herbal concoction mixed with human and animal saliva.
It is alleged that Ssebunya has been charging his victims between 100,000 and 200,000 shillings for a half litre of the herbal concoction.
Police was tipped off by Julius Kyebambe, one of the victims who says he was charged 100,000 shillings and promised to cure him but was shocked when Ssebunya prescribed human and animal saliva mixed with urine and some herbs for HIV patients who had visited the treatment center.
Officer in charge of Nyendo Police Station Christine Namawuba, says that they sent spies who found caught Sebunya ready handed distributing fake drugs to patients.
She says they closed the treatment center and intend to take the suspect to Butabika mental hospital for a mental examination before they present him before court to be charged
