Makerere University lifts Dr. Deus Kamunyu’s suspension after entering a consent judgement
Makerere University has lifted Dr. Deus Kamunyu’s indefinite suspension and instead resolved that the Don submits to the Internal Disciplinary process of the University.
This was revealed before High court Judge Lydia Mugambe where both Dr. Kamunyu and the University Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe entered a consent judgement agreeing to solve their differences out of court.
In the consent drafted by the University Lawyer Hudson Musoke and Dr Kamunyu’s Lawyer Felix Ampaire, Dr. Kamunyu has also agreed to withdraw the case he had filed against Prof. Nawangwe and Makerere University without any coercion, and undertook to submit to the disciplinary committee which shall in turn follow the Principles of Natural Justice.
Dr. Kamunyu , a lecturer at the University’s Department of Forestry who also doubles as the MUASA Chairman was suspended by Vice -chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe on grounds of mis-conduct and inciting other staff to engage in strikes.
On 30th/ January 2019 he then sued the UNIVERISTY and Prof . Nawangwe accusing them of unlawfully suspending him without first according him an opportunity to be heard.
The case had come up today for hearing hence the said development.
