Liverpool linked with deal for Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic
Liverpool link: Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic is expected to leave this summer
Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as they prepare for Pepe Reina’s potential return to Barcelona, according to reports.
Sources in Begovic’s homeland, Bosnia, say Liverpool have agreed a deal with Stoke for the 25-year-old, who has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.
Begovic’s future has been a subject of speculation since the January transfer window when Stoke signed Jack Butland from Birmingham and manager Tony Pulis’ exit this week is not expected to change the picture.
However reports on Mersyeside suggest claims from the Bosnian newspaper Dnevni Avaz that a deal with Liverpool has already been agreed could be wide of the mark.
Liverpool are thought to be evaluating their options should Reina push for a move to Barcelona – a prospect which would generate a significant fee to boost Brendan Rodgers’ rebuilding plans and relieve the Anfield wage bill of one of the club’s highest earners. However, it is thought Begovic is only one of the names under consideration.
