Lewis Hamilton to be reunited with Paddy Lowe at Mercedes
Lewis Hamilton will once again join forces with Paddy Lowe after the former technical head at McLaren announced his long anticipated move to Mercedes.
Lowe, who has already been placed on gardening leave, will begin his new role on June 3 – the week of the Canadian Grand Prix – while Tim Goss will be promoted to fill his role at McLaren.
Former world champion Hamilton signed for Mercedes last year and rumours have been circulating since January that Lowe was to join him.
Lowe will work closely with team principal Ross Brawn, a man he is expected to replace one day, who retains overall responsibility for technical and sporting matters.
‘I’m delighted to welcome Paddy to the team and to begin working together. He has an excellent record of success in the sport and would be and asset to any of our rivals in the pit lane,’ said Brawn.
‘It is no secret that every team is facing a significant balancing act between this year and next. But it is perhaps less obvious that we will also see major changes for the 201 and 2016 seasons, as development progresses with the new generation f car design and Power Unit.
‘To deliver in these circumstances, a successful team needs strength in depth. Paddy’s arrival will further strengthen our organisation and puts us ina strong position for the future.’
Mercedes announced last week that they would be using Honda engines from the beginning for the 2015 season.
