Kyebando Accident Claims One Life
A fatal Accident along Kyebando round about in Kampala, involving a Toyota Rav4 UAK 217C and a mobile crane UAX 216S has claimed one life.
It is alleged the driver of the Rav4, Ms. Aidah Esther Nanyonga, a resident of Nansana was trying to over take,collided and died instantly.
Her body has since been taken to Mulago for post mortem as investigations into the accident are ongoing.
The Two vehicles have also been towed away and traffic flow is now normal.Accidents on the Ugandan roads continue to be a menace, with many people losing their lives.
A recent study by the United Nations on Road Traffic Incidents(RTI) indicated that RTI accounts for 28.9% per 100,000 population, which is high and above the 24.1% for AFRO and 18.1% er 100,000 global average.
This puts Uganda on the list of countries with the highest accident related deaths, alongside, Nigeria, Iran, South Africa, Dominican Republic and Thailand.
Last month, 23 people lost their lives in a fatal Accident in Kiryandongo.
The accident involved a Gaaga bus and a lorry and a tractor at Nanda, in Kiryandongo district. According to police, the 22 dead include 4 juveniles, 19 adults (4 females and 15 males).
Nineteen of those killed died on spot while three succumbed to injuries from Kiryandongo hospital where they had been rushed for treatment.
At least every week, an accident happens, either taking life or injuring people, even though government has come up with a number of measures.
