Kisoro Police officer arrested over attempted murder
A police officer attached to Nyakabande Police post in Kisoro district has been arrested for attempted murder by shooting of a 23 year old man.
Supretendant Police Constable Number 5085 Christopher Kagabo together with colleague Kenneth Nkurunziza, a Uganda Peoples’ Defence Force (UPDF) who is on the run are accused for shooting Lawrence Uzabariho, a resident of Nyagakoro trading Centre in Gisorora parish Nyakabande sub-county in Kisoro district.
The incident occurred yesterday at Nyagakoro trading Centre in Gisorora parish Nyakabande sub-county in Kisoro district.
According to the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, the suspects who were on foot patrol armed with AK47 entered into the bar of Valence Niyonzima located in Nyagakoro trading Centre and ordered him to close and all the customers to leave immediately.
Maate says that this caused chaos and in the process, the officers fired bullets as a way of calming down the situation and Uzabariho who was standing at his house, coming from watching a football match was shot.
He was rushed to St. Francis Hospital Mutolere where he is currently admitted in critical conditions.
Maate adds that Kagabo is currently being detained at Kisoro Central police station, and efforts to arrest Nkurunziza are ongoing so that they are charged accordingly.
