KCCA thrown out of CAF Champions League
Nkana proved the better side yesterday as they beat KCCA 2-1 to advance, 4-3 on aggregate, to the CAF Champions League second round. Claude Bwalya and Christopher Mwinthal scored for Nkana as the Zambian side fulfilled their promise of uplifting the hosts at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Prior to the match, no Ugandan club has ever beaten Nkana at home in the previous three attempts. KCCA FC went into the game still buoyed by the incredible 2-2 first left leg draw in Kitwe a week ago. It was a different story though as KCC FC could not contain their visitors especially in second round of the game at Namboole. Tonny Odur who had scored in KCC’s previous three fixtures in the competition and Michael Mirungi, missed clear cut chances early in the game. Birungi dribbled all the way from the centre line but failed to beat advancing goalkeeper Charles Mweemba for what could have been the game’s opener.
Nkana will meet Egyptian side Zamalek in the second round. Zamalek drew with Angola’s 0-0 in Luanda to advance 1-0 on aggregate.
