Kaweesi murder suspect denied bail by the International Crimes Division Court in Kampala
The International Crimes Division Court has denied bail to a suspect in the murder of former AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi saying he likely to flee once released.
Justice Jane Kiggundu ruled that Yusuf Nyanzi has not proved that he is gravely ill, neither has he a permanent place of residence or produced substantial surities.
The Judge also took into consideration the gravity of the offence Nyanzi is facing whose maximum sentence is death, and the fact that he is already committed to the High court for trial.
Justice Kiggundu has directed the Court’s Deputy Registrar to immediately allocate Nyanzi’s case for hearing.
Kaweesi was murdered together with his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and driver Geoffrey Mambewa on the morning of 17th/ March/2017, meters away from his home in Kulambiro in Nakawa Division.
Yusuf Nyanzi is also among the 8 suspects waiting to face trial for the alleged murder of Maj. Muhammad Kiggundu and his body guard Sgt. Stephen Mukasa on 26th/November 2016 at Masanafu trading centre in Lubaga Division-Kampala District.
Yusuf and others are further alleged to have rendered support to the Allied Democratic Force a terrorist organization, by way of recruiting and training man power, between 2010 and 2017 in diverse Districts within Uganda.
He has now been taken back to Luzira Upper Prison to wait for his trial to fixed
