Kamwenge Mayor to Be Charged for Kaweesi Murder
Police are still holding in detention at Nalufenya 7 suspects in connection to the murder of AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.
Police spokesperson Asan Kasingye told reporters today that the suspects including Kamwenge town council mayor Godfrey Byamukama will soon be charged in court.
“We released 2 suspects last week and the remaining 7 will be charged soon,” Kasingye said on Monday at the police headquarters at Naguru.
“I am not sure of the day but they will soon be brought to court.”
The former police spokesman and Human Resource Director Kaweesi was in March killed by unknown assailants together with his driver and bodyguard as he left his home in Kulambiro, a Kampala suburb.
Last month, gruesome photos of the tortured Kamwenge mayor were released attracting public wrath towards police over torture of suspects.
Police that had earlier denied arrest and torture of Byamukama would later confess that he had been bruised as he fought police officers who were arresting him.
Four police officers were early this month charged for the torture of Byamukama at Buganda road chief magistrate’s court.
Kasingye said investigations into the case of the 7 suspects including the Kamwenge mayor are complete and will soon be charged in court.
