Kampala: Street vendor drowns while fleeing from KCCA enforcement officers
Police in Kampala is investigating circumstances under which a woman died after she drowned in the Nakivubo Channel as she allegedly fled from Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) law enforcement team.
Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, Emillian Kayima confirmed the incident and identified the woman as 38 year old Olivia Basemera, a handkerchief vendor, who was a mother of three and a resident of Mengo in Rubaga Division.
Kayima urges eye witnesses to come forward and provide whatever vital and relevant information they have.
Earlier, angry commercial (boda-boda) cyclists and vendors stormed City Hall in Kampala, protesting what they called inhumane treatment by the law enforcement officers.
KCCA spokesperson, Peter Kauju ,in a statement said they have heard about the sad news , addding that police investigations are underway.
