Kabale district donates 50 white canes to blind people
As one way of celebrating International White Cane Day and empowering blind people, Kabale district local government yesterday donated fifty white canes to blind and visually impaired people in the district.
The beneficiaries include 23 students of Hornby High School, 17 pupils from Hornby Junior School and other visually impaired people in the district.
The day celebrated every 15th October is aimed to acknowledge the abilities of people who are blind and to promote equal opportunities with the rest of the people.
Handing over the white canes to the beneficiaries, the Kabale District Chairperson Patrick Besigye Keihwa asked the public to stop mistreating the visually impaired persons but instead support them to improve on their well-being.
Meanwhile, The Kabale District Speaker Loy Zikamperreza asked teachers to show love to pupils and students who are visually impaired. She, however, challenged the students to be disciplined and utilize the chance of
being at school for a better future.
The Nationals celebrations were held in Luwero district.
