The Deputy Chief Justice, Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, joined hundreds of other mourners for the Requiem Mass last evening at the residence of the late High Court Judge, Jessica Naiga Ayebazibwe.
Several judges and other Judicial Officers at different levels as well as members of the legal fraternity turned up as the late Justice Naiga’s body was brought for a Mass and overnight vigil on Tuesday evening.
The Mass held at the family home in Ndeeba was led by Fr. Gombya Ambrose from Ndeeba Parish.
Earlier in the day, a Judiciary team led by the head of Family Division met with the family to agree on the funeral programme.
At the meeting attended by Lady Justices Linda Tumusiime, Ketra Katunguka, Olive Kazaarwe and other Judiciary administrators, the Judiciary announced that the late Judge will be accorded an official burial ceremony at her ancestral home in Katukuru, Mbarara.
Under this arrangement, the Judiciary takes charge of the burial ceremony through coordination and funding of the major funeral expenses.
The Deputy Chief Justice announced that the Judiciary will hold an extra-ordinary session at its headquarters in Kampala to pay tribute and respects to the late Lady Justice.
This will follow a Requiem Mass as Rubaga Cathedral on Wednesday morning.
