Joey Barton closing on management career – and he even has designs on Real Madrid!
Tough: Barton practises his hairdryer-treatment face
Mourinho, Holloway, Di Canio… English football is certainly blessed with some colourful managers at the moment. Can you imagine if Joey Barton was thrown into that mix?
Well, it’s no longer such a far-fetched scenario as the on-loan QPR striker will soon have his coaching badges.
And the former Newcastle and Manchester City bad boy has been proudly tweeting updates of his progress as he completes his UEFA ‘B’ licence and starts an ‘A’ course with the Irish Football Association in Belfast.
The tutelage has even made keen pupil Joey see the error of his ways in ridiculing the training methods of his old managers (i.e. all of them).
Barton, who was on loan at Marseille last season, wrote on his Twitter account: ‘The 2nd hardest, most nerve wrecking day of my life. I apologise profusely to any coaches whose sessions I have ever criticised…’
But where could the 30-year-old eventually dip his toes in management? Tranmere youths maybe? A Conference side? The lower echelons of Scottish football?
Well, Joey’s already been thinking ahead on that count. He quipped: ‘Do any of you reckon it might be a little early to send Real Madrid my CV?’
Make it happen, Mr Perez!
