Iryn Namubiru’s fate is going to be decided upon today in Japan.
Iryn was arrested earlier on this month for drug possession in Japan when she went to the country for a show. She has spent more than twenty days in jail since her arrest.
Today, she will find out if she will be released or officially charged and head to trial.
Artists gathered at All Saints Cathedral in Kampala to pray for her ahead of the court hearing. Among the musicians present for the church service were Juliana Kanyomozi, Silver Kyagulanyi, Bobi Wine, Catherine Kusasira, Pastor Wilson Bugembe, Julie Mutesasira and Dr. Hilderman among others.
The service was led by Rev. Diana Nkesiga Namutebi of All Saints Cathedral while the program of the service was led by Roger Mugisha of KFM. ‘’When one musician is a drug addict and has been caught dealing in drugs, we think that all musicians are the same. But you need to change that image such that people will stop associating you with drugs,” Rev. Nkesiga said.
Silver Kyagulanyi, a songwriter and singer, spoke on behalf of artists saying, “Today is Namubiru, but tomorrow it might be another artist.”
Iryn blames her manager for the problems she is having right now. it is assumed that she faces losing her property which will leave her children in dire state.
