Internal Affairs Ministy refuses to tag Government Services on Posession of National IDs
Minister of state for internal affairs Obiga Kania says government can not enforce the use of National Identity cards to all people seeking government services as they are yet to register all Ugandans.
This comes after reports in the media indicating that all patients will soon be required to produce their national identity cards before accessing medicine in health facilities.
Obiga responding to a matter raised by the Bugabula south mp Maurice Kibalya noted that government through NIRA has not fulfilled its duty of registering and issuing of IDS to all Ugandans and says that all agencies, ministries and departments that have taken this decision only want to deny Ugandans services.
The minister of state for health general duties Sarah Opendi noted that the plan to use National IDs for accessing medical assistance will only be achieved in the future as government plans to enroll national health insurance scheme.
