Hoima: Man cons Parents with fake student Bursaries, arrested
Police in Hoima has arrested a 40-year-old man for conning parents in a dubious scholarship deal. The suspect identified as Abdallah Katende, a resident of Kampala, had collected more than 50 million Shillings from parents in the areas of Kaiso, Kyehoro, Mbegu, and Katasiiha.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says that Katende, deceived parents that he had been sent by a Born Again Church Trust to secure scholarships for needy students. Each parent paid between 50,000 to 100,000 Shillings to have their children registered for the scholarships.
Instead, Katende took the children and dumped them in schools within Hoima municipality without making any payment to the schools, forcing parents to lodge complaints with the Police.
