Govt to institute commission to look at other constitutional and electoral reforms
Government is in the final process of instituting a constitutional review commission to look at other constitutional and electoral reforms as directed by the Supreme Court.
Deputy attorney general Mwesigwa Rukutana says his office has nominated would be members of the commissioners and their names forwarded to the president for appointment.
Rukutana says the commission will gather views from the public and thereafter an omnibus bill taking into account recommendations of the Supreme Court and other proposals gathered prior to the 2016 elections will be drafted.
Meanwhile, Rukutana adds that a petition now before the constitutional court over the issue of the presidential age limit cannot prevent parliament from processing the private members bill tabled by Raphael Magyezi. The petition was filed by a one Benjamin Alipanga.
