Gov’t asked to minimize on charcoal export to neighboring countries
The chairperson of the parliamentary committee on Natural Resources Alex Byarugaba has called for government intervention to minimize the charcoal export to neighboring countries.
Byarugaba who is the Member of Parliament for Isingiro south says the current trend of charcoal burning is scaring the future existence of forests in Uganda calling for a stop on the export.
He however put more blame on local governments and National Environment Management Authority which give licenses to destroyers of forests in the name of generating revenue.
He questioned the importance of the environment police which is looking on as environment is being destroyed for charcoal export yet they could have road blocks to stop and arresting the culprits for punishment.
