Government urged to review law on maternity leave
Government has been asked to review the law on maternity leave if mothers are to fully take care of their children. According to Dr. Petre Ssebutinde, Mbarara District health officer, the two months given as maternity leave for mothers is not enough.
He says employers need to provide breastfeeding rooms for mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies while at work.
Meanwhile, Dr. Viola Nyakato the Dean Faculty of Interdisciplinary studies at Mbarara University of Science and Technology urges Mothers to embrace family planning as away of spacing their children to get enough time for breast feeding.
She says many mothers have failed to breast feed their babies because of frequent pregnancies that force them to wean their babies before the recommended months of breast feeding.
