Government to resettle Over 10,000 Street Children
Government through the Ministry of Gender has announced an operation to withdraw children from the streets of Kampala once and for all
State Minister for Youth and Children affairs Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi said estimates indicate that about 10,000 children live on various streets in Uganda and an operation will soon be conducted to remove them and take them to designated Children Homes.
Nakiwala also warned the public against supporting them while on the streets saying government is drafting a national law that is going to criminalize such support unless it is delivered in designated homes.
She also issued an ultimatum of 30th June to all unregistered children’s homes estimated to be about 569 to formalize their operations or face closure.
She said this while addressing a news conference at the Ministry of Gender in Kampala.
